A Complete Shading Package for a Modern School
Archbishop McGrath Catholic High School is a £20 million, three-storey school in Brackla for 750 pupils aged 11 to 18, including sixth-form students. The building centres on a triple-height atrium and includes sport and leisure facilities available to the wider community during evenings and weekends. Solar worked with JB Leadbitter and HLM Architects to deliver shading, privacy and specialist window-film solutions throughout the school.
Installation Details
How the Project Came Together
Reception and Atrium Glare Control
A motorised blind was installed in the reception and triple-height atrium area to control glare while preserving the open architectural character of the space.
Classrooms and Laboratories
System 40 blinds provided dependable daylight control in teaching spaces, with blackout blinds used where specialist science and presentation activities required darker conditions.
Prayer Room Window Film
Coloured window film created privacy and a distinctive finish for the prayer room while allowing natural light into the space.
A School Designed for Its Community
The facilities support 750 pupils aged 11 to 18 and include sport and leisure areas available to the public outside school hours. Solar specified practical products for intensive daily use and maximum functionality.
Recognised Architecture
The project team included JB Leadbitter and HLM Architects. The completed school received recognition connected with the Design Commission for Wales and National Eisteddfod, including a Plaque of Merit and Architectural Scholarship from the Royal Society of Architects in Wales.
